• Tuneboy Tutorial

Ok here goes: Tuneboy.. what all the numbers mean & how to use them.
    1) log onto tuneboy.com.au & purchase your tuneboy
    2) receive, in the post, 1 lead ( connects laptop to bike)

connects to the diagnostic plug next to battery

Dont connect YET, photos just show how for later.
    3) load CD into laptop & follow simple click instructions. This loads all the progs & drivers.
    4) tunes will be found in a folder called tuneboy tunes, but can be downloaded into any folder. Mine are mostly in the tuneboy drivers folder
    5) accessing a tune: a)click: launch tune edit ( desktop icon looks like a block of graph paper) if you don't have the tuneboy lead plugged in an error box pops up, click 'ok' then it opens.
    b) click 'file' in top left corner, this accesses your files, one of which u have your tunes.

    c)click on a tune
    d) close down the tune edit & carry your gear to the bike, plug lead in to putor & bike.
e)turn key to power up electrics, but DONT start her up.
    f) launch tune edit agian & it opens on the tune you last left there.
    g) FIRST TIME you use it, all you get is the ecu serial number.
    h) email this & your email & details to support @ tuneboy.com & wait for your ecu access code to be mailed back. This will be a string of apparently meaningless words strung together.
    i) open up tune edit, click the options box & enter the code they gave you in its box.
NOW you can use tune boy.

To download someone elses tune into the bike; ie off tuneboys site, or elsewhere, download onto putor, stored in whatever folder you wish to use for tunes. Access them as shown above clicking the 'file' button.
connect to bike as shown before , power up, open tune edit & NOW, the yellow download button bottom right lights up.
Click this & then check the warning notice. Tune will download ( blue bar at bottom) quite fast & you will hear the start up cycle whine trigger.
Then turn bike key off & on once & your done!.
IF you've taken too long before downloading, you get a fail notice, just wait til the yellow download recycles up & reclick.
    UNDERSTANDING THE BOXES:
Firstly: the F boxes. F1,2 &3 are the tables showing the estimated amout of air each of the 3 cylinders sucks in at each TP & revs. One table per cylinder, & they DO vary.
The more air, the more fuel basically.

Next: the trims box. Here is the best place to fine tune what you download, to suit your bike. neg 5% in a box means the ecu takes 5 % off whatever fuel calculation it would normally add. In this table ive leaned out a rich tune to give stock bike cruising economy ( low throttle 24-3200revs) & snappy acceleration with fastest possible roll on performance ( by trial and testing)

after this we have the L tables . these are like the F tables , but for low throttle settings, & are the ones to enrich to cure backfire /popping on decel.

The I tables, 4 of them are the ignition tables. 1 for neutral 2-for 1st gear, 3 for 2nd gear4 gears 3-5. 2-4 are always identical. Ignition maps dont tend to vary much, mebbe by 3.0 from one tune to another. generally leave these figures alone.

Ignition trims, work like fuel trims, but best left alone.
secs table: 100 in all boxes means secs are fully open thru the gears. You esp. need to check this if you have removed the 2ndry plates! fuelling needs to be matched to open all the time.

Finally: the A/F table. this table tells the ecu what ratio air to fuel its trying to make. Most maps use more or less the same A/F. Whether they achieve it however, depends on how accurate the F table actually is.

For eg.if at 100% throttle & 300 revs, F1 table shows 14232 ( 1.4232g of air) & the A/F ratio is 13.5, then 0.10542grammes of fuel will be added. (1/13.5x 1.4232). Bumping up the F value to 1.6000 will obviously bump up the fuel to match, BUT if you cylinder is , in reality, only sucking in 1.300g of air, your going to get a rich mix, & bog down the power.
Using the trim tables to tune the mix & testing agianst a mates stock bike will give you your best mix to a 1% accuracy. Yes its that sensitive.
Finally; altering the revs limit, speedo & idle.
With tune edit open on a tune, click the edit button, then tune constants & a box will pop. adjust figures in the box & click save.

Once you have made any adjustments & are ready to try them, ALWAYS click file & save tune. label it .
Finally, here's one of our friendly deadly spiders.

The wife killed it with hair spray. It came to a sticky end! boom boom ! :P
