    Riding Arizona

Unless some catastrophic event occurs, I'll be take a bike to Arizona this month. I'll drive to Sacramento with the VStrom in the back of the pickup along with a friend's Sherpa. I'll drop the truck off in Sacramento and then head to Mesa while my friend will ride to Mexico and beyond. Dan intends to ride to Argentina. I'll do some AZ riding and leave the bike there for the winter, returning every few weeks.

    It should be fun.

That's as good a reason as any to go anywhere.

Liz, I'll definitely give a shout. Steve, I'll probably remain over only one night in Sacto before heading south. I'll be taking a SW flight back to get the truck and hopefully we can get together before I drive back home.

Skip, Dan is one tough guy. He'd done the Dawson run (Arctic Circle) on his old airhead GS and now wants to ride as far south as he can. He is under a timeline because there is a ferry he must catch that will take him around the Colombian jungle. The chances of getting through alive are apparently quite slime. I don't understand the issues with riding through the Americas but Dan is well up on all that stuff. And BTW, he is a retired Navy Chief Boatswain's Mate/hard hat deep water diver. He was in the pictures I posted about my VStrom crash in the Olympic mountains but I've deleted all of those.

I've been working on the Strom this week getting it ready for the trip. I installed a top box a couple of weeks ago, one liter fuel cells on each pannier and a pigtail for my Gerbings heated gloves. I shouldn't need gloves around the Phoenix area and points south but the ride there could get mighty cold in NW Arizona. I attached a couple of pics, one of the Strom as currently configured and one of the Blue Sea auxiliary fuze block. The fuze block will accept six accessories. In this pic, I have only the Gerbings tail and the aux hot point installed, the latter that I will use for my GPS, phone charger and air pump.

Also, I had new Bridgestone Battle Wing dual sport tires installed within a week or so of my off road crash and really like them.
