Canada's Lancaster bomber to cross Atlantic for U.K. tour

Canada's Lancaster bomber to cross Atlantic for U.K. tour
Chance to see two Lancasters flying in formation again called a 'once in a lifetime opportunity'

The RAF wanted to arrange a formation flight before its own Lancaster is grounded next year for a planned overhaul. The Hamilton Lancaster was at a perfect point in its maintenance cycle to take on a trip like this, so the museum sent a planning team to the U.K. in January (the only other flying Lancaster in the world). The Lancaster arrives at RAF Coningsby on Aug. 8.

If you have $40,000 you can hitch a ride across the Atlantic.

I didn't realise there were only 2 flying, I feel kind of fortunate to see the one based at RAF Coningsby do flybys last year

There ought to be a spitfire / hurricane escort for that formation flight

Is that the going rate for British Air? No wonder they can afford to give you reclining bed seats....

It's amazing how few examples of WW2 aircraft, tanks, vehicles, etc remain in maintained/restored condition these days; out of the thousands and thousands that were produced back in the day.

Yep, that's the one I've seen taxiing before now, I think it now has the fully working set of merlins in it and the bigger issue is getting the runway in order and approved
