    hi TriumPhil
    preventative replacement parts????? ooooooooeerrrrrrrrr,,,sounds scary.
i have no idea if my R3 has had any updates or upgrades.
just thought the gear change was a bit "clunky"
it has had a new ignition switch at some time, and recently a new speedometer.
cant wait to have to spend a fortune on it lol

I shouldn't worry too much, Stavros.

If your bike has over 20K on it, any problems would have showed by now.

The ignition switch is a well known fault - my 2005 bike's switch became unsoldered in 2010 - other than that, I only had to replace a couple of primary throttle position sensors.

The upgrade kit that Phil refers to is unlikely to have been fitted to a UK bike as a matter of course, and was only fitted as and when a fault occurred.

hi there OWL, is it likely that the ignition switch could fail again??? or is the replacement one upgraded??

I'm not the best guy to ask about technical matters, but ignition switch failure is a common fault.

A good thread here shows it in more detail

    http://www.r3owners.com/showthread.p...witch-forensic

From my understanding, too much load goes through the switch, causing the solder to become unsoldered over time.

I had mine relocated to the left hand side panel and had no further problems.

Most people get some warning of a potential failure - the bike cuts out on full lock, and power returns when you straighten the bars. When that starts, it will soon fail altogether.

Zorstec made the forward facing ram air type filtration for the bike I've just sold. Good people.
