I hear you. Locally, by the time I pay MSRP, F&S, sales tax, $150 doc. fee, and license I'm looking at around $22,000 OTD. And that's if I don't pay any of the dealer markup.
One disadvantage I see with the Fat Bob is the exhaust looks like it will block any attempt at throwing on decent saddlebags. My Roadie can go from solo seat naked bike to tourer with bags, trunk, passenger seat, fairing and lowers in well under an hour.

I imagine these bikes do handle well though because, let's face it, with a fat front tire, weird headlight, Brembo brakes, 8 valve counter balanced motor solid mounted to a rigid-frame-mimicking mono shock frame, Harley has essentially introduced an updated 1999 Victory and those handled pretty well. My '99 had more chrome and better paint though.

Sure, but then you can go up to Stage 4 from the factory on the Fat Bob too. My point was, for a stock Harley it might be close, and in the not too distant past that was unthinkable. Remember what a giggle it was when the Rocket came out in '04 and Harley riders wanted to race? Somebody's going to have to hunt down a Fat Bob, ya know, in the interest of science.

My hat's off to The Motor Company for stepping up their game in a big way,Ed.

Nonetheless, I prefer more mass beneath me with a high output motor. Call me old fashioned, old school or just plain old, but that's my view from the bridge.

Besides, the new Thruxton really talks to me and it delivers the goods. At about 200 pounds lighter than the HD, I'd imagine that the power-to-weight comparison would likely see the Triumph kick the Hardley awfully hard in its crusty nuts.

Its going to happen, the larger capacity engine is happening. Good source.

That Fat Bob will be their replacement for the V rod which was hard to sell to the traditionalists. Finding a bike that's faster than an R3 is not that hard, but getting one that is comfortable for tall riders and can do really long stretches on bad roads is really hard, maybe impossible.

Ever been on a ride with Harley riders who get off and complain about bad roads and you are wondering WTF they are on about?

Looks like the 114 makes around 118ftlb of torque and weighs roughly 150# less than a Roadster. Have we entered the Twilight Zone where stock for stock a Harley will out pull a Rocket??
Never thought I'd see the day.

The FAT BOB is 82 lbs lighter not 150 your way off and only makes 80+ HP NO competition for a ROCKET

Some are just lovers of Harley. Never was a fan.
    Rockets rule.

Would like another top gear though. Or a Carpenter kit
